Let’s backtrack to about… 12 days ago. A girl stands, waiting. Uncertain of what will happen when she opens the two imposing wooden doors facing her. The LIM College flag dances through the wind, daring her to take a walk inside. She looks around, nervous, then uses all her strength to pry open the barrier between her and the best experience of her life.

Fashion camp. Two words, one meaning: THE BEST OPPORTUNITY EVER. Personally, when I think of the word “camp”, I picture puny bunk beds, swarms of bugs and feel the sweltering heat on my skin… NOT appealing. Thinking of the word “fashion” is different. Fashion makes my heart turn into a million butterflies, transforms my mind into well-oiled gears and sends the sweet smell of perfume swinging through the air. Mix those two words together and one will overpower the other. Which will prevail? That’s an easy one…

Fashion Camp NYC, the very reason for why I have this distinguished confidence towards the career path I’ve always wanted to take, provided the “campers”
with intelligent, inspirational speakers who took everything to the next level.
The following are a few people who came to speak to us… A FEW!

Katy Wanserski from FEED PROJECTS. Feed Projects created the popular FEED BAG as well as other accessories that upon being purchased, give money towards feeding children in third world countries. This was a great example of how you can mix a great idea in fashion with giving back. Go to www.feedprojects.com to learn more about this fabulous project!

Dana Maxx is a new designer who started out working for very popular brands and is now her own brand. Her collection is making it into more and more stores and if you haven’t seen her things already, you will, sooner than you can blink an eye! Her tale of hard work and perseverance really struck a chord with me. I encourage you to go and take a look at her website: www.dana-maxx.com

Candace Craig Bulishak works in PR for none other than… TARTE COSMETICS! She was very good at telling us about how everything got started and getting us to go and shop TARTE. In fact, Mrs. Bulishak was the one who introduced the group to wordpress.com! If you haven’t seen it yet, go read my post about the amazing TARTE COSMETICS.

Ty Wilson is a Fashion Illustrator who taught us all how to capture the essence of the garments we wanted to draw. Before he came to the rescue, most of us were perplexed with how to draw and the idea of getting our ideas on paper instead of dreaming them. You need a base knowledge of drawing in order to work in any field in fashion. Ty Wilson made drawing look effortless! Go check him out at: www.tywilson.com

Nikki Fowler, Publisher and Editor in Chief of Glitter Magazine! Mrs. Fowler had so many stories about how she grew up loving magazines and was always looking for the latest trends. Even in times where she didn’t have access to all of the resources one would need to start a magazine or even be in the loop, it was a cinch for her to come out on top with amazing magazines, pictures and trends. This speaker gave us one of the most fun visits. We were given cool activities to do as well as great information on what it’s like to own a magazine. I owe it to Nikki Fowler for making me even more certain of the career path I want to take and for helping me pick up this amazing confidence in reaching my aspirations, in writing and in fashion. Get a copy of Glitter Magazine!

Dominique is a hard worker and an extremely talented makeup artist! In fact, it was the hard work she performed that got her to where she is now, which is working for Glitter Magazine and TV shows known well by you and I. This specific speaker instructed us to take every opportunity that comes our way, to never get knocked down and not to quit our dreams. It was Dominique’s amazing work ethic and success that kept the drive to obtain our goals going. This makeup artist also loves using INGLOT cosmetics for her job! If you don’t know much about that brand, go and see my post about it!

Last but definitely NOT least… the Wanderlust girls, EMILY and ABIGAIL!!! These are some cool people, might I say. They are best friends who started blogging only to communicate with each other with pictures and posts, never expecting to make anything of it. Now that their blog has become VERY popular, they are successful developing their ever-growing brand and continuing to create their unique posts! Emily and Abigail are responsible for introducing the world of blogging to me in a new light and making it a possibility of doing this for a living in my mind. They are fashionable and creative and I think you should go read their amazing blog www.lovelywanderlust.com

Well, there you go! That was the list of some of the speakers who came to tell us who they are and what they do! If you’re interested in them or people like them… what are you waiting for? Go to Fashion Camp NYC next summer and kick-start your life in fashion!
